  • Shoreham beach is a long wide shingle beach with wooden groynes. The beach is a popular South Coast water sports location, providing some good but safe sailing conditions.

Conditions at Shoreham depend on the wind, but a typical SW wind will produce nice conditions ideal for the intermediate sailor. Best to avoid 2 hours before and after high tide. If you are learning, Shoreham can be an excellent location to practise in a F2 or 3, with flat-ish water shallow for a reasonable distance out at low tide.

    Facilities:

    • A couple of pay and display car parks and limited parking on the road.
    • Toilets
    • Cafe (summer)
    • Shops on Ferry Road near one of the car parks

There is a coastal beach platform with parking places along the pebble beach for a stretch of the beach in front of the houses which is ideal for the disabled in wheelchairs and motorised buggies to park and view the beach scene. Access one end is from the road leading from the pedestrian bridge over the Adur and the platform follows the beach for a distance before returning to the road parallel to the beach towards the Fort and Harbour end of the beach. Adur District Council is to be commended for this innovative scheme. Other authorities should take note and take similar action.
