Canvey Island is a reclaimed island in the Thames estuary, protected by 15 miles of concrete wall sea defenses. As Canvey Island lies below sea level and it is prone to flooding at very high tides.
Canvey has three sailing clubs; The Island Yacht Club, the Chapman Sands Sailing Club and the Benfleet Yacht Club.
A region between Thorney bay and Labworth beach is designated as an approved windsurfing area.
