Scottish Maritime Museum
Irvine, Ayrshire, UK
The Scottish Maritime Museum is a museum to Scotland’s seafaring heritage and is based on two sites. One is the Denny Ship Model Experiment Tank in Dumbarton and the second site is in the Linthouse Building on the harbourside of Irvine in North Ayrshire.
In Irvine, visitors can explore exhibitions and ship models, the Linthouse Engine Shop as well as take a tour of a typical shipyard worker’s flat restored to its early 20th century appearance. The MV Kyles vessel can also be boarded, which is the oldest floating boat built by the Clydesdale shipyard.
Currently undergoing renovation, the Linthouse Building in Irvine is due to reopen in Spring 2013. The museum’s boatshop display and café are open all year round.
The Dumbarton site is open from 10 am to 4pm throughout the year, see www.scottishmaritimemuseum.org
