Essex Beaches and Coast

Essex lies north east of London and borders Suffolk and Cambridgeshire to the north with Kent to the South.

This county has more than 350 miles of coastline, the longest in England! There are perfectly English seaside resorts like Clacton on Sea, maritime towns like Leigh on Sea and islands too! What brings visitors back time and again are the endless miles of superb coast and beaches.

Each year Blue Flag status is awarded to beaches in the area and those that have attainted this award include Jubilee Beach, Three Shells Beach, Chalkwell Beach, East Beach and Martello Bay. The piers are a big attraction in English seaside towns but none more so than at Southend on Sea where you can enjoy a traditional meal of fish and chips!

These charming towns lining the coast of Essex host great music festivals, food events, art trails and carnivals in the Summer months and you can choose the pace. Frinton on Sea is quieter whereas Clacton on Sea is busy and fairground exciting. For those interested in the countryside there are giddying walks along the 'sunshine coast' and great nature reserves to explore.
